About Us
In
the spirit of community service “The Dawg House” has
teamed up with the Highlands County Emergency Management group to provide
boarding facilities for cats and dogs during an emergency in Highlands County.
Our Facility
Located
on 5 acres off of Henscratch Road, we are centrally
positioned to serve the Lake Placid and Sebring areas. All of our buildings are constructed with
concrete block and appropriate hurricane strapping and reinforcement. With three kennel buildings, a cat suite
building, and a central processing office, we have the capacity to house over
100 pets if needed in an emergency situation.
Amenities
include indoor/outdoor runs, climate controlled cat facility and emergency
generators that will service all five buildings in the event of power failure.
Our
staff has over 20 years of vet tech experience and Humane Society experience
who are dedicated to providing quality care on a daily basis.
Costs and fees
There
is no fee to shelter your pets during a stated emergency in Highlands
County. Please review the detailed responsibility
list at this link. Please ensure that
proof of vaccination is provided at the time of boarding.
It
is expected that all pets will be picked up within 4 hours after the
announcement is made that it is safe to leave the shelter. Any further boarding arrangements will be at
our regular pricing schedule.
